MMDA launches app vs. illegal towing activities, illegal parking


The public can now directly report illegal towing operations and illegally parked vehicles to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority through an iTow app downloaded on their mobile devices, a television report said Friday.

GMA News TV's Balitanghali reported that the MMDA launched the application to monitor the activities of its 177 accredited tow trucks. The app will initially cover areas in Mabuhay Lanes.

Each tow truck will be accompanied by a constable who will have a tablet to document the towing activities.

The television report said only the constables without any derogatory record and trustworthy were trained and given the mobile devices.

The app, which can be downloaded for free, can be used by the public to report illegally parked vehicles or seek help if they need the assistance of MMDA tow teams.

The MMDA recommended the app to local government units to allow them to monitor their accredited towing companies.

The towing operations will be conducted from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Illegaly parked vehicles with drivers will be receiving tickets.

The cost for towing will be 1,500 for light vehicles, P2,500 for medium vehicles, and P4,500 for heavy trucks plus P200 per kilometer to Pasig impounding area.

For the opening of classes, MMDA called on private schools to make used of shuttle bus system to avoid the volume of vehicles like in Ateneo de Manila University and Miriam College in Katipunan, Poveda College and La Salle in Greenhills, and La Salle in Taft Avenue, Manila. — Amita Legaspi/RSJ, GMA News
