An active member of the Quezon City Police District - District Anti-Illegal Drugs Unit (QCPD-DAID) was killed in a shootout early Tuesday morning, GMA's Jay Sabale reported on "Unang Balita."

A buy bust operation was conducted near a fastfood chain at the corner of Commonwealth and Regalado Avenues to trap the suspect, identified as Sr. Insp. Ramon Castillo.

After a poseur-buyer successfully bought five packs of shabu and the police was about to arrest the suspect, Castillo immediately drove away from the site and proceeded towards Regalado Avenue.

However, Castillo turned to the corner Bulova Street and was faced with a closed gate. Castillo then opened fire at the pursuing police officers.

Meanwhile, Allan Gatus of Super Radyo's dzBB reported that QCPD police recovered suspected shabu inside Castillo's vehicle.

QCPD Chief Sr. Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said they have been planning the buy bust operation for some time and that this was not the first time they conducted an operation involving Castillo.

Eleazar added that they were also able to purchase five packs of shabu in a previous operation.

He said they gathered and validated the information on the activities of Castillo.

Eleazar said there are other police officers under surveillance, adding that they are validating the information they have gathered.

"Sana lahat ng ating kapulisan ay tumalima. Dapat tayong lahat ay maging ehemplo," he underscored. —BAP/KG, GMA News
