Quezon City cop arrested for extortion —police
Quezon City police special operations personnel arrested a police officer for extortion.
GMA News reported Saturday morning that authorities caught PO1 Michael Gagasin in the act of accepting extortion money in an entrapment operation inside the compound of the Masambong Police Station at about 8 p.m. Friday night.
Jaqueline Pineda, the live-in partner of tricycle driver Aldrian Abalos, said that Gagasin arrested her partner while at a karinderya in Barangay Paltoc, San Francisco Del Monte.
Pineda said the suspect talked to her at the police station and asked her to pay P500,000 to free Abalos of any charges.
Because Pineda cannot afford the P500,000, Gagasin agreed with the P100,00 that Pineda proposed to produce.
Before the money was supposed tobe delivered to suspect, Pineda asked help from the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) at Camp Karingal.
Pineda said she showed the suspect's text messages to her to the DSOU, which later planned the entrapment operation.
The DSOU gave P100,000 marked money to Pineda to be delivered to Gagasin.
According to the police operatives, the suspect did not take the money at once and instead put the cash bundle on top of chair in a hut inside the Masambong Station.
When Pineda turned to go, Gagasin caught up with her and confiscated her cellular phone, the police said.
Right then, DSOU operatives arrested Gagasin.
Gragasin may face charges of robbery-extortion, DSOU said. — LBG, GMA News
