A fireman of the Agham Fire Substation in Quezon City quickly responded on Monday morning to a woman, who gave birth inside an abandoned jeep.

A report from Athena Imperial on "24 Oras" said FO1 Ray Anthony Turallo attended to Regina Sunit and immediately checked the condition of the newborn baby.

"Kinuha ko agad yung baby. Chineck ko kung may difficulty siya, suddenly umiyak which means okay yung respiration niya," Turallo said.

Turallo, a registered nurse, gave initial medical attention to the Sunit and her baby.

"Binalot ko na siya. Yung available na t-shirt ni ma'am tapos humingi pa ako ng isang lampin para mas mainit. And then pinatong ko sa kanya bilang first bonding nilang magnanay," he said.

The report said Turallo called for the emergency medical services of the Quezon City Fire District since he had no emergency tools and equipment.

"Kami na rin po ang nagputol ng cord tapos ni-wrap na po yung bata, dineretso na po namin sa East Avenue (Medical Center)," Fire Officer 2 Katrina Marie Consolacion of the QCFD said.

Sunit's live-in partner, Carlito Habalita, said his partner has been complaining of stomach pains since Saturday and eventually gave birth while he was getting money.

"Noong kukuhanin ko na yung pera namin, e yun. Pagbalik namin nanganak na siya," he said.

Habalita expressed his gratitude to the fire fighters who responded to his baby, who will be named "Lorraine," and his partner.

"Maraming salamat sa kanila dahil tinulungan nila kami... Lagi naman 'yan silang ready tumutulong, Habalita said. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/NB, GMA News
