Impounded vehicles cause traffic on East Ave. in Quezon City
Impounded vehicles in Quezon City were causing heavy traffic on East Avenue, a television report said early Thursday morning.
GMA News' Vonne Aquino on Unang Balita said that two outer lanes of the road were occupied by at least 20 colorum vehicles that were earlier impounded for various violations.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board admitted having difficulty in finding a place for the impounded vehicles as it seizes five to six units daily, the report said.
According to the LTFRB, the impounded vehicles were either have no franchises, proper documents, or with fake plate numbers.
Motorists caught using colorum vehicles are required to pay a fine depending on the type of vehicles they were using when caught.
The rates for the penalty include:
- Motorcycles - P6,000,
- Public utility jeepneys - P50,000
- Cars - P120,000
- Vans - P20,000
- Bus - P1 million
Seized vehicles will also be impounded for three months, the LTFRB said, adding that they are now coordinating with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority in looking for two possible places as impounding areas.
The MMDA has recently designated an impounding area in Tarlac province, while the LTFRB is planning to construct one in Bulacan. —Erwin Colcol/LBG, GMA News
