Police shot to death a minor in Caloocan City who allegedly helped a drug suspect in a shootout during a buy bust operation early Sunday morning.
Citing initial information, GMA News identified the fatality as Hideyoshi Kawata, 17.
The report quoted fiscal Darwin Cañete as saying that the original target was a man identified only as alias "Buboy" who stood as Kawata's guardian.
Upon sensing they were transacting with an undercover buyer, Buboy fled, leaving behind Kawata alone shooting it out with the cops, Cañete said.
Police claimed Kawata was armed with an Uzi machine gun.
An initial police investigation showed that Buboy's house had been used as a drug den.
But Kawata's mother, Buboy's live-in partner, denied the allegation and also insisted her son did not have an Uzi.
Kawata's grandfather appealed to the police to verify their targets in the war on drugs. —LBG, GMA News
