Authorities shut down Las Piñas bar where Lyceum student was hazed
Authorities have shut down the bar and billiards place in Las Piñas City where an 18-year-old female student of Lyceum of the Philippines University was allegedly hazed.
In his "Balitanghali report on Thursday, GMA News’ Oscar Oida said authorities have located the alleged establishment in Barangay Talon Dos, Alabang Zapote Road in Las Piñas City.
The hazing rites on January 8 seriously hurt Colleen Alilio, who is currently recuperating in a hospital.
Colleen sustained bruises and burns after she was paddled by the members of a sorority she was applying in.
Students still in their uniforms quickly dispersed when the police entered the establishment. Found on the tables were half-empty bottles of liquor.
Charisma Alilio, the mother of the victim, was dumbfounded when she saw the place.
“Siyempre masakit sa magulang ‘yun na kung nagkataon sa ganitong lugar lang mamamatay anak ko?” Charisma said.
Through a phone call, Colleen described to her mother the place where she was hazed.
From there, Charisma confirmed that the bar and billiards place matches her daughter’s description.
“Pagpasok ko pa lang, nung nakita ko ‘yung bakanteng lote, lahat tugmang-tugma e,” Charisma said.
Charisma then scolded the owner of the bar, Ivan Flores, for allegedly allowing the hazing incident to happen in his establishment.
In his defense, Flores said he had no knowledge about the incident.
“Kukumpirmahin muna natin ‘yung sinasabing ganun. Di ko pa rin kasi alam. Aalamin ko muna,” he said.
Members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group - Southern Police District (CIDG-SPD) invited Flores to their station to undergo investigation.
“Definitely sa ngayon, hindi naman siya suspek natin. Iniimbitahan natin siya considering na dito sa lugar niya nagkaroon ng initiation,” Chief Insp. Romeo Lanzarrote of the CIDG-SPD said.
Personnel from the Las Piñas City Hall shut down the establishment after discovering that it has failed to secure a permit to operate for two years already.
Meanwhile, police already have the list of possible suspects responsible for the hazing incident whom Colleen identified herself through Facebook. — Erwin Colcol/VVP, GMA News
