A global positioning system tracking device led policemen to 15 "rentangay" vehicles in Quezon City on Friday night.

A Balitanghali report said that the 15 vehicles, considered as stolen, were recovered from a warehouse along Kitanglad Street.

Chief Inspector Hector Ortensio of the Quezon City Police District's Anti-Carnapping Unit said that one of the recovered vehicles was a Mitsubishi with a GPS-tracking device.

"Nag-umpisa ito sa isang Montero na may GPS ang kanyang sasakyan kaya na-trace nasa Kitanglad ang Montero," Ortensio told GMA News.

He said the Montero's owner went to them with the information, which was immediately acted upon by their unit.

The 15 vehicles have been brought to the unit's headquarters in Camp Karingal.

Owners of two of the recovered vehicles rushed to the police camp after being informed of the operation.

Julie Anne Rodriguez said she rented out her vehicle in June 2016 after being promised by a "rent-a-car scammer" with a P50,000 monthly income.

Rodrigo dela Rosa, another car owner, said he was also promised a P40,000 monthly rental payment from another scammer.

Rodriguez and Dela Rosa said the scammers failed to contact them a few months after giving them the promised rental payments.

"Parang wala na akong pag-asa na makita tapos nabalitaan ko nandito nga, gusto kong ma-confirm para mapanatag ako," Rodriguez said.

Police said they are conducting follow-up investigations to determine the possible liability of the warehouse's owner in the "rentangay" scam. —report from Bam Alegre/Rie Takumi/GMA News
