MMDA failed to complete P124M in flood projects – COA
A Commission on Audit (COA) report found that the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) failed to complete P124 million in flood-control projects form 2014 to 2016, GMA 7 news program "24 Oras" reported on Monday.
The COA counted a total of 44 unfinished MMDA projects distributed across Quezon City, Makati, and Manila.
The projects remained uncompleted because of poor planning on the part of the MMDA, which failed to coordinate with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and other concerned agencies.
The MMDA had reasoned that their failures were due to typhoons, the need to relocate informal settlers, a lack of permits from local government units, and the overlapping of projects with other agencies.
The COA report emphasized that coordination matters should first be settled even before any projects are started.
This was not the first time the COA criticized the MMDA for the manner in which it executed projects.
In July 2016, the COA reported that the MMDA failed to improve the traffic situation in the NCR because the agency had not developed a detailed plan, they deployed untrained traffic personnel, and improperly utilized the technology available to it. — Margaret Claire Layug/DVM, GMA News
