Workers get dizzy after suspected chemical leak in QC ice plant

An ice plant in Quezon City was suspected to have a chemical leak on Thursday after workers reported getting dizzy and having chest pains after smelling ammonia.

According to a report on Unang Balita, one of the employees, Bryan Bismonte, said they smelled ammonia coming from one of the machines.

They immediately turned the machine off and left the premises.

Fire Officer 3 Jayrald Jornales, team leader of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Quezon City, said when firemen arrived past 5 a.m., the smell of ammonia was no longer strong.

They facilitated the ventilation of the place.

A blower was used to remove the chemical smell.

This is the second time a suspected chemical leak was reported in the ice plant in Barangay South Triangle.

BFP personnel said the use of the ice machine will be prohibited while investigation is ongoing.

Jornales also said they will investigate if the operator of the plant is liable and if the machine will still be usable. —KG, GMA News
