Taxi firm: Cab driver in Carl Angelo case last reported for work on Sept. 3
Tomas Bagcal, the cab driver who was allegedly robbed by slain teenager Carl Angelo Arnaiz, last reported for work on September 3, the taxi company he is working for said Friday.
Three representatives of the taxi firm, who refused to be identified, went to the National Bureau of Investigation National Capital Region Office (NBI NCR) to submit Bagcal's employment and attendance records.
This came a day after Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II mobilized government agents to find Bagcal and look into the robbery incident that eventually led to Arnaiz's death on August 18.
Aguirre even offered to place Bagcal under the provisional coverage of the Witness Protection Program so he could tell the whole truth about the incident.
Bagcal's daily time record showed he reported for duty at 4:22 p.m. of August 17 and went back to the taxi in Baesa, Caloocan City at 9:05 a.m. of August 18.
The company said the taxi driver also disclosed that he had been robbed by a person along C3 Road in Caloocan on the wee hours of August 18.
That person turned out to be Arnaiz who was killed by the Caloocan police after the 19-year-old allegedly opened fire as the policemen were about to arrest him.
Bagcal, who has been with the taxi firm since 2008, last showed up for work on September 3 at 4:23 p.m. He left his taxi unit, which was also turned over to the NBI, in the company garage at 5:16 a.m. September 4.
Acccording to his resumè, the 54-year-old Bagcal is a native of Bagnos Aurora, Isabela.
He has a degree in business administration major in management banking and finance from La Sallette College in Santiago City, Isabela which he earned in 1984.
Before he became a taxi driver, Bagcal had worked as a cashier for a popular fast food chain, inventory clerk for an airline, checker, plumber in Singapore and truck driver. — RSJ, GMA News
