Girl doing homework at 'pisonet' cries in fear during Caloocan police ops

Traumatized by the recent string of teen deaths, a teenager doing her project at a "pisonet" computer rental shop in Caloocan City wept at the sight of police officers conducting curfew ops late at night.

As shown in a report by Victoria Tulad on 24 Oras, the 14-year-old openly wept at the police station where she was taken for breaching the city ordinance mandating a curfew for minors from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

"Baka matulad po kay Kian po, yung binaril po," the girl said, referring to the killing of 17-year-old Kian Lloyd Delos Santos by police officers.

Her mother angrily said that the officers should have asked what her child was doing before taking her in.

"Dapat tinanong muna nila kung anong ginagawa ng bata. Kagaya niyan, gumagawa ng assignment yung anak ko sa pisonet," the mother said.

The teenager was taken under Oplan Rody or "Rid the streets Of Drunkards and Youths", an ordinance enforced by Senior Supt. Jemar Modequillo in Parañaque City before being installed as Caloocan City's chief of police.

Under the ordinance, parents of minors who violate the curfew will either be jailed or fined P2,000 while drunkards and men seen without shirts in public will face the same penalties or be subjected to exercise.

Modequillo said the teen should not have been at the computer shop due to this ordinance, imposed to stamp out crime and lower the number of vehicular accidents at night.

"Kahit nasa computer shop dahil meron tayong tinatawag na curfew," he said. "Marami talaga rin, kahit papaano, nahuli na nga sila, nag-a-alibi pa. Ive-verify muna natin."

During the same period, simultaneous operations led to the arrest of alleged drug users and pushers, gamblers, and suspects with warrants of arrest. —Rie Takumi/JST, GMA News
