A retired soldier and his son were arrested during an anti-illegal drugs operations in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City.

A report by GMA News' Cesar Apolinario on Balitanghali on Monday identified the suspects as retired Philippine Army member Damaso Calayan, 57 and Julius Calayan, 37.

"May information tayong nareceive ano... sa Barangay Silangan, allegedly isang member ng Armed Forces of the Philippines. Nalaman natin na may mga previous records din itong taong ito," said Chief Inspector Sandie Caparroso, chief of the drug enforcement unit of Quezon City Police District Station 6.

Also seized during the operation were drug paraphernalia, six sachets of suspected shabu and a gun.

Meanwhile, the suspects denied the allegations against them.

According to Damaso, a certain Abdul was the real drug suspect in their area.

"Manugang ko sir... si Abdul. 'Yan ang talagang nagdadala sir... Doon kami laging nag-aaway," Damaso said.

"Mag-iisang buwan pa lang akong lalaya eh, mag-iisang buwan pa lang po ngayon. Wala hindi naman po sa amin nahuli... sa labas po ng kwarto nung Abdul nahuli," added Julius.

The Calayans are facing charges related to illegal drugs and illegal possession of firearms. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
