Delivery tricycle driver mauled for running over 3-year-old girl
The driver of a delivery tricycle was beaten up by the father of a girl he ran over on Tuesday afternoon, GMA News' Oscar Oida reported on "24 Oras" on Wednesday.
The footage of a CCTV in Barangay 572 in Sampaloc, Manila shows a girl, Angel, crossing the street when a delivery tricycle hit her.
The girl's father, Jonel Tolentino, can then be seen punching Joel Barbecho.
Angel was able to totter away from the scene almost immediately to her mother but Tolentino continued to beat Barbecho until Angel's grandmother, Rebecca, pulled him back.
"Siyempre sir, nabigla po ako, nagalit po ako ng husto. Basta nag black-out po ako sir, nung nakita ko po yung anak ko na nakahandusay sa kalsada," Tolentino said.
The three-year-old was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was treated for minor bruises and where her parents found out that Barbecho had no license to drive the tricycle.
"Noong nasa ospital na kami, tinanong ko po kung may lisensya yung driver kasi nga tinanong rin siya nung gwardiya. Wala pala siyang lisensya," Rebecca said.
"Sabi ko, kung saka sakali, gusto ka namin ireklamo makukulong ka kasi wala kang lisensya tsaka three-years-old 'tong nadali mo," she added.
Barbecho's employer, Roberto Bacud, promised to pay for all damages caused by the tricycle driver, who left for his hometown but only after reaching an amicable agreement with the girl's parents.
"Nagpunta ako ng hapon doon. Kinausap ko yung kagawad at tsaka yung lolo. Sabi namin, kung ano man yung magiging cost ng na-damage na planggana na sinasabi at tsaka yung gamot, babayaran lang namin," Bacud said.
Barangay 572 Zone 560 Chairperson Daisy Tee said they remind residents keep a close watch over the little children.
"Sa lugar kasi namin, talagang maraming bata kaya konting paalala lang sa mga magulang, huwag hayaan na tumatakbo ng labas-masok yung mga bata," Tee said. — Rie Takumi/BAP, GMA News
