LTO orders Maria Isabel Lopez to explain ASEAN lane stunt
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Monday issued a show cause order on actress and former beauty queen Maria Isabel Lopez in relation to her traffic violations when she removed traffic cones and drove in a lane on EDSA reserved for ASEAN Summit delegates.
Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board member Aileen Lizada shared a copy of the order to reporters.
Lopez is ordered to appear at the LTO's Office of the Director on Thursday, November 16 at 10 a.m. and explain why her non-professional driver's license should not be suspended or revoked.
LTO said that Lopez disregarded traffic sign, breached security protocol for the 31st ASEAN Summit and also violated the Anti-Distracted Driving Act.
The agency added that Lopez was an "improper person to operate a motor vehicle" since she had endangered the safety of the public and government property.

Lopez, the Binibining Pilipinas Universe titleholder in 1982, earlier drew flak after she shared on her Facebook and Instagram accounts that she removed divider cones on EDSA so she could use the ASEAN Lanes and avoid heavy traffic on Saturday, November 11.
The designated lanes were blamed for the monster traffic jam on EDSA on Saturday as they reduced the number of lanes the general public could use on a weekend.
The actress has since apologized.
"Sorry to those who got hurt and affected," Lopez said. —NB, GMA News
