Woman loses right arm in MRT 3 accident

A woman lost her right arm in an accident at the Metro Rail Transit 3's Ayala station in Makati City on Tuesday afternoon.

A report by the MRT 3's security head identified the victim as Angeline Fernando, 24, of Pasay City.

The report said Fernando had just alighted from the train when she felt dizzy and fell to the Ayala station's tracks.

Fernando got caught between the first and second cars of the train and lost her right arm, the report added.

In a radio dzBB interview, Transportation Undersecretary Cesar Chavez said the woman's right arm got caught in the train's coupler, which links the first and second cars.

He said the train was already about the leave the Ayala Station when the woman fell to the tracks.

Chavez said the accident happened at around 2:30 p.m.

The station was not busy during the time of the accident, Chavez said, quoting MRT 3 station supervisor Raffy Robles.

The woman has been brought to the Makati Medical Center.

Chavez said normal operations have resumed immediately after the incident. There were 10 trains running as of 4 p.m.

He has also ordered to make the CCTV footage be available to the police and media.

"Pinaiimbestigahan din natin bagamat kokonti lang ang pasahero, ano 'yung mga pagkukulang dito," Chavez said. —report from Rod Vega and Marlly Rome Bondoc/ALG/KBK, GMA News
