MMDA to strictly implement rules on bus, motorcycle lanes on Wednesday
The Metro Manila Development Authority will start to strictly implement rules on yellow lanes for buses and motorcycle lanes starting on Wednesday.
According to Bernadette Reyes' report on "24 Oras", drivers of buses caught outside the yellow lanes will be fined P200 while those of private vehicles caught inside the bus lanes will be fined P500.
Motorcycle riders caught outside the motorcycle lane will be fined P500.
Riders who need to overtake may do so on the left side of the motorcycle lane.
When they need to make a turn, they may start doing so 100 meters before the corner.
"We're lobbying for more 'cause a hundred meters is short...So that gives us a few seconds to get out," Motorcycle Philippines.com president Bimbo Isidro said.
Jojo Garcia, MMDA’s assistant general manager for planning, said there would no exceptions to the stricter implementation of the regulations even with the expected heavy traffic on EDSA.
"Sunod muna tayo, tignan natin," he added. —Margaret Claire Layug/NB, GMA News
