At least 200 families in Taguig City were left homeless after fire razed their houses on Wednesday.

The fire started past 5 p.m. Wednesday at the informal settler community in Zone 7, Mini-Park, Bonifacio Global City, according to a report on Unang Balita on Thursday by Victoria Tulad.

One of the fire victims, Grace Ojeda, said she happened to glance out the window and saw smoke, then a big fire. She ran out of the house together with her children with just the clothes on their back.

Affected residents sought shelter temporarily at a tent at the basketball court and at the barangay hall. They spent the night trying to sleep on chairs, tables, cartons, and mats given by the local government.

The Bureau of Fire Protection said 60 houses were burned and 200 families lost homes.

The fire reached Task Force Alpha, meaning 20 firetrucks were called to put out the fire, and the activity was overseen by the provincial or district fire marshall.

One of the residents, Merly Tiad, said the fire started from a rented room near her house.

Ojeda appealed for assistance to help her and the other residents recover from the tragedy.

As of posting time, there was still no power in the area.

BFP officials have yet to disclose the cause of the fire and estimate of property damage. —KG, GMA News
