Motorists complain of heavy traffic as Skyway changes toll collection system

Motorists complained of heavy traffic on Monday after the Skyway management implemented its new toll collection system, according to a report on Unang Balita on Tuesday.

Under the new system, motorists have to stop twice on the Skyway. Aside from the payment booth, there is also a tollbooth in the middle where motorists have to surrender a slip containing a QR code.

Skyway O&M Corp. asked the public for understanding.

In a statement, the company said it "would like to apologize to the motoring public for the heavy traffic along the elevated expressway brought about by the roll out of a new system designated to make toll collection and traffic throughout more efficient."

"As stated in our advisory for motorists prior to the actual implementation of the new toll collection scheme we anticipate this transition may initially cause some delay and confusion. We humbly ask again for your kind understanding and patience," it added.

The company added that it is confident that the new toll collection system will be beneficial to motorists once they have adjusted to it.

"We are positive that once many have adjusted and adapted to the new toll collection system, the benefits of these enhancements to the Skyway will be felt by a great number of people," it said.

Management said it will further study the process to give the public better service. —KG, GMA News
