Police check canals in Marikina for possible ‘termite gang’ tunnels
Police in Marikina City on Monday swept canals as a preemptive measure against the so-called "termite gangs" who break into banks and other establishments by digging tunnels.
A report on Balitanghali said Marikina City policemen swept through canals near banks, pawnshops and other business establishments and checked for tunnels that may have been dug by the criminal gang.
The termite gang's usual targets are pawnshops and banks. They breach into security systems by digging tunnels under the establishments.
During last year's Holy Week, the group entered a closed pawnshop in the city by digging a tunnel on the canal near the establishment.
The city police force said its personnel will regularly check the surroundings of possible targets of the gang during the Holy Week. —Anna Felicia Bajo/ALG, GMA News
