LRT-2 ops suspended due to technical problem

Operations of the Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT-2) were disrupted before noon on Wednesday.

In an interview on Balitanghali, Light Rail Transit Authority board secretary and spokesperson Atty. Hernando Cabrera said management declared "code red" after a train stopped between the Cubao and Anonas stations due to a technical problem.

"'Yung safety mechanism ng ating mga tren, kapag may na-sense na mali sa system o kulang ng power, automatic, nagshu-shutdown 'yung mga brakes niya para maiwasan 'yung tinatawag natin na runaway train," Cabrera said.

Accordingly, the LRT-2 suspended its operations for at least 30 minutes.

Cabrera said it resumed full operations as of 12:05 p.m.

He also noted the incident took place between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., considered non-peak hours. —Margaret Claire Layug/KG, GMA News
