MWSS unveils new water treatment facility
A new waste water management facility in Pasay City was unveiled Wednesday by the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).
According to a report on Balitanghali by GMA News' Oscar Oida, the Maynilad sewage treatment plant will be treating water from Pasay households before releasing it to Manila Bay.
The facility was designed to process up to 46.6 million liters of waste water per day to the advantage of some 288,000 residents in Pasay City.
With the latest addition, the MWSS said Metro Manila has a total of 58 waste water treatment facilities. This, however, reportedly covers only 15 percent of Metropolitan Manila.
The government agency plans to cater to the entire area by 2037 through further "expansion" of waste water facilities.
Regarding the project's effect on their consumers, Maynilad Water Services and MWSS had yet to specify how high Metro Manila water bills are expected to go up.
The report also mentioned the possibility of heavy traffic brought by the construction of more sewer lines. — Margaret Claire Layug/BM, GMA News
