Makati cop, 4 cohorts nabbed for abducting Chinese

A Makati City police officer and four of his cohorts were arrested in an entrapment operation after they abducted a Chinese early Thursday morning.

Southern Police District director Chief Superintendent Tomas Apolinario identified the cop involved as Police Officer 2 Jaycee Abana who is a traffic investigator of the Vehicular Traffic Investigation Unit of the Makati City Police Station.

His four other cohorts were identified as Mohalem Macamundag, Muhamad Macamundag, Mohalil Macamundag, and Wenceslao Sevellejo.

They were arrested about 1:30 a.m. Thursday along  Nicanor Garcia Street in Barangay Poblacion,  Makati City following the entrapment operation conducted by the operatives of the Station Investigation and Detection Management Section.

The victims Changbo Fang and Fang Zhang Bao who were onboard their Lexus IS 300 sedan were traversing along Nicanor Garcia Street in Barangay Poblacion, Makati City when the five male suspects onboard a Mitsubishi Montero “started flashing its headlight” signalling their vehicle to stop in front of a mall.

Police said that one of the male suspects alighted from the vehicle and held Fang at gunpoint while taking his wallet and money.

His companion, Bao, managed to flee during the incident. The suspects then supposedly directed Changbo to call his relatives in order for him to give a ransom money amounting to P1 million but was reduced to P80,000 after negotiation.

An entrapment operation was launched after the three friends of the victim, whom Changbo contacted, told the police about the incident.

Apolinario said they will file cases of kidnap-for-ransom against the five suspects. — RSJ, GMA News
