Vehicles already impounded at Makati precinct towed anew by MMDA

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority's (MMDA) on Tuesday towed vehicles already impounded at a police precinct in Makati.

According to Mark Salazar's report on 24 Oras, the vehicles lined up in the impounding area of the police station along Buendia were "obstructing" the road.

As the MMDA hauled all the vehicles to their own impounding area in Marikina, the owners were left to settle payment for two tickets and two different towing fees.

A violator, who was seen trying to reason with an officer, emphasized it was the police who towed his vehicle the night before and brought it to the precinct.

The enforcer said: "Kami nagpapatupad lang, 'pag pinagbigyan kita, paano naman ang ibang hinahatak?"

When the motorist pleaded further, the enforcer said: "Iba 'yung araw, iba 'yung gabi. Sorry, brad."

Some of the MMDA's operations against traffic violators on Tuesday resulted in threats and tears.

These include the towing of an illegally parked tricycle in Tramo, Pasay, whose driver reportedly threatened to stab members of the towing team.

The enraged motorist was heard saying "sasaksakin kita," and tried to deny it later on.

Meanwhile, along the Roxas Boulevard in Manila, a woman was emotional in begging MMDA personnel not to tow their illegally-parked tricycle.

"Wag naman, sir, marami po akong anak na pinapakain. Paano naman ang mga anak ko? Paano na nag-aaral kong anak?" she was heard saying.

The MMDA also ticketed taxis lined up at an illegal terminal in front of a hotel, including an operator who took out his tools to convince authorities that his vehicle was broken. — Margaret Claire Layug/BM, GMA News
