Araneta Avenue now passable, MMDA says

Araneta Avenue in Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City is now passable to all vehicles after it experienced flooding caused by incessant rains, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Tuesday.

As of 4:44 p.m., waters have already subsided at the Araneta Maria Clara, Araneta Ave. Victory, and Araneta Talayan, MMDA told GMA News Online.

Earlier in an interview on GMA News TV's Balitanghali, Ed Garcia, MMDA Bravo Team Leader of the Flood Control Information Center said the backflow of water around the E. Rodriguez up to Maria Clara Street were caused by the rising levels of waters at the San Juan River.

Garcia said Marikina is continuously coordinating with the MMDA and is asking regarding rains in the mountains of Rizal as it determines the rise of waters in the city.

He said information gathered from monitoring the water elevation in Marikina River will also be used to notify residents if they needed to evacuate.

Garcia confirmed drainage systems around the metro are working, after the PAGASA issued an Orange rainfall warning earlier to Metro Manila, Cavite, Bataan, and Zambales. — Jamil Santos/RSJ, GMA News
