Traffic abounds as flooding renders prominent NCR roads impassable

Traffic took a turn for the worst as flooding from continuous heavy rains caused rendered several roads impassable or slowed vehicles to a crawl in Metro Manila on Friday morning.

AS of 10:30 a.m., the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) noted that traffic in the following routes remain moderate to slow-moving:

  • Balintawak to Bonifacio (SB)
  • Katipunan to McKinley
  • Marcos Highway to SM Marikina
  • SM Fairview to Philcoa
  • Quezon Avenue (WB)
  • Sucat to C5

While not flooded, a heavy volume of vehicles slowed down traffic along EDSA (both sides), Katipunan southbound approaching Aurora Avenue, Tomas Morato, Timog Avenue, the Scout area, and Quirino Highway.

Knee-deep flooding has caused the Araneta Avenue intersection by E. Rodriguez to become impassable to all types of vehicles.

Super Radyo dzBB reporter Allan Gatus uploaded a video of cars braving Mother Ignacia Street despite a massive amount of floodwater inundating the usually-busy area.

Down south in Manila, Carlo Mateo reported on Dobol B sa News TV that traffic loosened along Taft Avenue in Manila and floodwater along Bluementritt Street receded from its high point of 12 to 25 inches.

Due to the re-routing of buses, the MRT-3 experienced more than its usual load of passengers.

Meanwhile, three barangays in Sta. Maria, Bulacan were also submerged in floodwater due to heavy rains, as confirmed by DRRM Officer 2 Paul Agustin in an interview on GMA News TV's News To Go. — RSJ, GMA News
