The tomb of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani has drawn selfie-seekers on All Souls' Day.

According to Luisito Santos' report on Super Radyo dzBB, the visitors at the strongman's tomb included families of soldiers buried at the cemetery.

Marcos was buried clandestinely at the heroes' resting place on November 18, 2016.

His burial at the cemetery reserved for war heroes, former presidents, and national artists was met by massive protests from relatives of victims of human rights violations under the Marcos dictatorship.

'Like a thief in the night'

Boni Ilagan, an activist who fought the Marcos dictatorship, compared the surprise burial to the declaration of Martial Law in 1972.

"Like a thief in the night, Marcos declared Martial Law in 1973. Like a thief in the night, he is being buried today. It is the Marcos style all over again." he said in a statement.

"We condemn this latest assault on justice by the Marcos cabal."

The burial came 10 days after the Supreme Court ruled to dismiss the consolidated petitions seeking to stop it, voting 9-5-1.

In its decision, the High Tribunal said there was no law prohibiting the burial at the heroes' cemetery, despite allegations of rights violations and corruption against him. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/NB, GMA News
