Various motorcycle riders' groups held a unity ride on Sunday in support of the drivers of motorcycle ride-sharing app Angkas.

The unity ride was held on EDSA days after the Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order blocking a Mandaluyong court’s decision to stop the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) from interfering with Angkas operations and arresting its drivers.

According to a report by GMA News' Katrina Son on Balitanghali, the motorcycle riders blew their horns all at the same as a sign of support to Angkas drivers and to air their opposition against the Supreme Court order.

The order, they argued, has a huge effect on the Angkas drivers as the ride-sharing app is their only source of livelihood.

In a press conference that followed afterwards, representatives from Angkas said they would follow the court order, they are still negotiating to allow them to do their operations freely.

They pointed out the need for ride-sharing apps like Angkas to provide alternative modes of transportation amid heavy traffic.

The representatives said they will also submit documentary evidence to the court to strengthen their defense, including relevant data and information that would show that their drivers are very well trained to operate the motorcycles safely.

The passengers themselves could also report and file a complaint against their drivers on instances of misbehavior or reckless driving, they added.

The Supreme Court ordered Mandaluyong Judge Carlos Valenzuela and the operator of Angkas to comment on the LTFRB and Department of Transportation’s petition for certiorari within 10 days after receiving the notice. — Erwin Colcol/BM, GMA News
