HOV lanes on EDSA scrapped, says MMDA
The high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes on EDSA proposed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority are no more, an MMDA official said.
MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia said that they scrapped the HOV lane to respect the Senate’s resolution to abolish it after motorists' criticisms during its dry run on August.
“Wala na tayong HOV lanes,” Garcia said in a press conference on Wednesday.
“Hindi dahil sa hindi nag-work. Meron kasing resolution ang Senate na nirerespeto natin,” he continued.
Also in August, the Senate called for the suspension of the "single ban"—which would have barred driver-only cars on EDSA during certain hours—which, according to the Senate, deprived thousands of people of the use of the country's major thoroughfare.
"The implementation of a regulation that would allegedly affect seventy percent (70%) of the motor vehicles plying and enjoying the use of the Philippines' major thoroughfare without holding a prior public consultation or hearing is violative of the due process of laws enshrined and protected under the Constitution," the resolution stated. — BM, GMA News
