MMDA plans to give motorcycles exclusive lane on EDSA

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is planning to give an exclusive lane to motorcycles on EDSA once the so-called road diet is implemented, a report on "Quick Response Team" said.

According to MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia, the motorcycle lane may be placed beside the yellow lane for buses.

At present,  the existing motorcycle lane or the blue lane along EDSA is being shared with private vehicles.

Meanwhile, the road diet will create an additional lane along EDSA by downsizing the width of the existing lanes.

Each of the five lanes in the north- and south-bound sections of EDSA currently measures 3.4 meters wide.

These will be reduced to 2.8 meters each in order to create new lanes in both directions to improve traffic speed.

The proposed additional lane will increase the road's accommodating capacity by up to 6,000 more vehicles in each direction. —Kaela Malig/ LDF, GMA News
