MMDA imposes 60 kph speed limit, 'no window hours' policy on major roads

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday said it is implementing the 60 kph speed limit in all major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.

According to a report by Chino Gaston on GMA News TV's State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, the order is effective starting Tuesday, March 26, 2019.

The speed limit was imposed in order to reduce the number of road accidents caused by speeding, especially during the late hours of the night.

Some motorists welcomed the move for road safety while some disagreed as the speed limit could cause longer travel time.

"Parang 'di ako sang-ayon kasi nga eh lalo na pag medyo nagmamadali ka. Kagaya nito, seafood ang dala namin. Kailangan medyo magmadali," a delivery crew of perishable goods said.

Prior to this, the 60 kph speed limit has already been enforced in some Metro Manila roads such as Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

Further, the MMDA said that a uniform number coding scheme will be used along national roads and other major thoroughfares in order to avoid confusion among motorists.

The "no window hours" policy will now be standardized and strictly implemented from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays in all major roads and Mabuhay Lane routes in the following areas:

  • Caloocan
  • Las Piñas
