The closure of the eastbound portion of Marcos Bridge in Marikina City has been moved to May 11, Saturday, due to unfinished installation of traffic equipment, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced Thursday.

In a press release, the MMDA said the decision was made on Thursday after it met with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and its private contractor, as well as with SM City Marikina.

It was assessed that the private contractor is not yet ready to start the rehabilitation after its personnel inspected the area.

The MMDA said that the private contractor should first open an intersection for trucks and install traffic signals from Libis to Katipunan in Quezon City.

The agency added that the private contractor should also open a slot at the median island for vehicles going to Antipolo and install signs informing the public of the project.

The MMDA gave the private contractor one week to complete these requirements.

On Tuesday, the MMDA announced that the eastbound portion of Marcos Bridge would be closed for four to five months for rehabilitation. — Joviland Rita/BM, GMA News
