Senior citizen couple killed inside QC home

An elderly couple was killed by a still unidentified suspect inside their residence at a subdivision in Novaliches, Quezon City.

The crime happened around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Police Major Elmer Monsalve in an interview on GMA News TV's Quick Response Team on Monday.

The octogenarian victims Nicolas and Leonora Austria sustained stab wounds and serious blows in their heads.

"Wala ho kaming nakikitang forced entry kasi lumalabas nga, parang dumaan sa bakod (ang suspek) saka bumaba doon sa loob ng bahay ng mga biktima," Monsalve said.

Their housemaid was also injured in the head and is currently confined at a hospital.

"Ayon sa pag-iinterview namin doon sa injured nga na nakakausap na namin, ang nakita niya isa lang talaga ang suspek dito sa krimen na ito," Monsalve said.

He added that robbery could be a possible motive for the crime as the couple's drawer was found to be open.

"Maaaring may pagnanakaw kasi 'yung loob ng kwarto nitong mga biktima, makikita mong bukas 'yung drawer doon sa crime scene at saka makikita mo na bukas 'yung closet. Ibig sabihin naghahalungkat, naghahanap ng mananakaw niya," he said.

Bloody clothes suspected to be that of the suspect's, a steel pipe, and a kitchen knife were recovered at the site.

An investigation is still ongoing and the police are trying to get CCTV footage around the subdivision to track down the killer. — Dona Magsino/RSJ, GMA News
