QC court finds cops behind 2005 kidnap-slay of Taiwanese businessman guilty
A Quezon City court on Wednesday found the policemen and civilians behind the 2005 kidnap-slay of Taiwanese businessman Michael Chan guilty and sentenced them to reclusion perpetua without eligibility for parole.
A report by Allan Gatus on Dobol B sa News TV identified the policemen as:
- Police Staff Sergeant Allan Berania
- Patrolman Candido Vallejo
- Patrolman Joel Tapec
- Patrolman Alexander Pangilinan
- Ferdinand Gahusan
They were also asked to pay the family of the victim P100,000 as civil indemnity, P100,000 as moral damages, P100,000 as exemplary damages, and P100,000 as temperate damages.

The verdict was handed down by QC Regional Trial Court Branch 219 Judge Janette Abergos-Samar.
The report said three other accused have remained at-large. They are:
- Patrolman Daniel Maburan
- Patrolman Ely Frias
- one alias Ogie
Chan was killed on September 15, 2005 on Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City. He was killed despite the P6-million ransom paid by his family, his body dumped in Antipolo City in Rizal.
The accused policemen — collectively known as Doce Pares — claimed Chan was arrested for his involvement in the illegal drug trade. —KBK, GMA News
