Kadamay members put on Duterte, Xi Jinping masks in protest on SONA Day
Members of the urban poor group Kadamay on Monday wore masks showing the faces of President Rodrigo Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping as they held a protest action on the day of Duterte's State of the Nation Address (SONA).
They held banners saying "Atin Ang Pilipinas" and said the West Philippine Sea issue should be addressed by the government, according to a report by Marisol Abdurahman on GMA News TV's Balitanghali.
Some of them also pushed wooden carts or kariton which they said was a symbol of poverty.
Many poor people live in such wooden cars, they added.
The Kadamay members first gathered in front of the Quezon City Hall then proceeded in front of the National Housing Authority headquarters.
They said poverty should be addressed by the government.
The Kadamay members also accused Duterte of selling land to foreigners and as a result, not much land is left for the people.
While the Kadamay group was holding its protest action, members of a pro-cannabis group passed by dressed in Phantom of the Opera and Deadpool costumes.
The Kadamay members then proceeded to Commonwealth Avenue to meet with other protesters.
Militant groups are set to hold a program on Commonwealth Avenue as Duterte delivers his fourth SONA. —KG, GMA News
