Vico Sotto challenges Filipinos to 'go beyond the sexy issues and focus on governance'
After going viral on social media for answering questions about relationships, Vico Sotto on Tuesday said he hopes to challenge Filipinos to focus on governance instead of “sexy issues.”
“Nakita naman natin ‘yong mga problema natin sa mga nakaraang dekada. Baguhin natin kung paano tayo,” Sotto told the press at the launch of Neighborgoods at the Ayala Malls The 30th.
Sotto said his challenge to the media, constituents and politicians including himself is “to beyond the glitz and the glamour, the sexy issues, focus tayo sa pag-go-gobyerno.”
Sotto said he’s in office for two reasons: (1) to serve and (2) to challenge the system.
“Let’s challenge the norms, ‘yong mga nakasanayan natin sa politiko natin. Isipin mo panahon na na i-challenge naman natin,” he said.
Although he does not like the idea of going viral on social media for issues involving his personal life, Sotto said it is still a good platform that he could definitely use in his work as Pasig City mayor.
“Ang advantage is meron akong avenue na libre na mapapakita ko sa tao ano ba ‘yong mga ginagawa natin,” he said.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Sotto said Filipinos should stop treating government officials as showbiz personalities.
The tweet came after a certain part of his interview with Winnie Monsod on “Bawal Ang Pasaway” went viral.
In the interview, the 30-year-old mayor admitted he's never had a relationship in his life. And while it's not his priority, he hopes to marry someone before 40.
When asked what are the qualities he's looking for in a woman, Sotto said he hopes to be with someone smart and in the same "wavelength" as him when it comes to governance. — LA, GMA News
