Now postcard-worthy? Estero de Binondo’s transformation continues

Cleaned up as early as almost a year ago, Manila's Estero de Binondo has continued its transformation from a trash-clogged canal into a postcard-worthy waterway.

The Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission on Thursday proudly shared a photo of the waterway clearly reflecting blue skies and the buildings surrounding it.

Its sides have been lined with plants.

The once-polluted estero has been considered a park or a "green belt" in the middle of the busy downtown Manila district for almost a year now.

The waterway has been rehabilitated, cleared of tons of garbage and shanties through a program that lasted for almost two years and cost about P10 million.

The waterway, once brimming with trash, now gleams with the reflection of the infrastructures surrounding it.

The stench coming from has also been reduced according to the residents.

In April, dredging was conducted in Estero de Binondo as part of the rehabilitation of Manila Bay.

Truckloads of garbage had been recovered from this waterway. —NB, GMA News
