Passengers walk on rails anew as power failure hits MRT3
A power supply failure hit Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) on Wednesday morning, causing some passengers to walk on the rails to be evacuated.
In an advisory, the MRT3 said a problem in the rail system’s power supply from Ayala Station to Taft Avenue Station was reported at 10:17 a.m.
“The matter was immediately coordinated with our power personnel,” it said.
Due to the power supply failure, passengers were evacuated at the northbound side of the inter-station of Magallanes and Ayala stations at 10:34 a.m.
At least 508 passengers were affected by the incident.
‘Not risky to walk’
The MRT3 clarified that it is not risky to make passengers walk on the rails while the power supply is being restored as the electricity is on the cables above, not on the tracks.
“At 10:35 AM, power was restored,” the MRT3 said.
“We continue to investigate the cause of the power supply issue, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience,” it said. — MDM/KG, GMA News
