Employees of Star City are expecting a bleak Christmas this year after the amusement park was gutted by fire early Wednesday morning.

According to a report by Ian Cruz on 24 Oras, Star City has around 500 workers. During the busy Christmas season, an additional 200 people are employed.

“Wala kaming pagkakitaan. Walang, ano ‘yun, para sa amin pang-gastos, magde-December pa. Sana nga mag-operate,” said Marlon, a Star City employee who was among the first to respond to the fire.

Employees of tenants in the theme park are wary about the upcoming holiday season as well.

Star City management affirmed its commitment to help employees.

“As far as employees of Star City (are concerned), the company is committed to take care of them,” said spokesperson Ed de Leon.

The management added that it is possible for some employees to still have jobs when the rehabilitation of the park begins.

Star City hopes to operate before Christmas as the majority of the park’s outdoor area, where rides are found, was not damaged by the fire.

Around 80 percent of the theme park’s covered area was razed by the fire.

“‘Wag po kayong malungkot,” De Leon told patrons. “Tinitiyak po namin sa inyong magiging maligaya ang Pasko ninyo sa Star City. We will do everything.”

The National Capital Region director of the Bureau of Fire Protection Rico Kwan Tiu said they will form a special investigation task group to look into the fire. —Julia Mari Ornedo/LDF, GMA News
