Residents of a barangay in Muntinlupa expressed their concern over sewage water that not only smells bad but catches fire as well.

According to a report by Athena Imperial in GMA's 24 Oras on Saturday, residents in Barangay Bagong Silang, Sucat complained of smelling solvent in the area.

The report said the flammable liquid collected by the residents from the canal seemed to contain gas and oil.

Local authorities were prompted to looking into incident following the complaints from the residents.

The report said since the residents complained about the incident a week ago, no more combustible liquid has been collected from the area.

But still, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said it will still conduct its own investigation on the matter.

"Malamang na may chemical nga yan and diyan talaga mag sisimula yan sa kanal and it will end up in our waterways," DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda said. — Joahna Lei Casilao/MDM, GMA News
