Lollipop from trick or treat chokes to death 2-year-old boy in Pasay City

Two-year-old Liam Ezekiel's parents still refuse to believe that the lollipop their little boy obtained from a trick-or-treat event ended their child's life.

Neighbor Leopoldo Corsino Jr. recounted that he just came home from work at past 7 p.m. last Thursday when Liam approached and requested him to unwrap a lollipop he got from friends who earlier joined a trick-or- treat affair in a Pasay City neighborhood.

At the time, Liam’s parents were both at work —his father being a jeepney driver and his mother a staff at a restaurant.

Leopoldo said that a few minutes after the boy requested him to unwrap the lollipop he heard Liam crying and gasping for air.

He and Liam’s aunt tried but failed to remove the lollipop from the toddler's throat, and in a moment they decided to take him to a nearby clinic, and finally rushed him to the San Juan De Dios Hospital. But doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Liam’s mother Shiela Enriquez said they still are in a state of shock and in so much pain from the tragedy that struck their family.

The family is appealing  for financial assistance to cover for the hospital bills and funeral expenses. —LBG, GMA News
