Cop gunned down in Quezon City

A police officer was shot dead near a popular food trip destination in Quezon City on on Tuesday evening.

The victim was identified as Police Lieutenant Ernesto Mendoza Jr., who is assigned at the QC Police District's Logistics Division.

Mendoza was in his car when gunmen on board a motorcycle repeatedly shot him at the corner of Malingap and Mapagkawanggawa streets.

The victim was alone in his car.

The police are conducting an investigation into the incident to determine whether the incident is connected with his line of work, according to Police Major Elmer Monsalve, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.

Monsalve said the killing seemed very well planned because the suspects followed the victim's car, which has heavily tinted windows.
