Newly launched Cavite-Manila ferry service offers free rides for a month

The new Cavite-Manila Ferry Service is offering free rides for one month after its launch on Sunday, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade made the announcement on the launch of the new ferry boat service at the Cavite City Hall.

“Gusto ko pamaskong handog ito sa mga taga-Cavite. At kung gagawin ko pamaskong handog ito, dapat naman libre,” he said in his speech during the launch.

Shipping companies Seaborne Shipping Company Inc. and Shogun Ships Co. Inc. agreed to offer free rides in the first month of the ferry service operation, starting Monday, December 9, 2019  until January 9, 2020.

Starting on Monday, ferry boats will be moving passengers from Cavite City Port Terminal at the Cavite City Hall to Cultural Center of the Philippines Port and Bonifacio Square (Lawton Plaza) in Manila.

“With this service, hanggang sa Lawton, hanggang sa CCP, naglalaro ho yan sa 40 minutes one way… Imagine how much you will be saving in terms of travel time,” Tugade said during the launch.

Chair of Committee on Transportation, Samar 1st District Representative Edgar Mary Sarmiento said, usually, the travel time from Manila to Cavite is around four hours.

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), and the local government of Cavite City also helped in establishing the ferry service, Tugade said. —Joviland Rita/LBG, GMA News
