Tondo residents pay homage to Sto. Niño during festival


 

Residents filled the streets of Tondo, Manila on Sunday to hold a festival for their beloved Sto. Niño.

Early in the morning, devotees trooped to the church bearing the images of the Child Jesus to have them blessed.

Children then took part in parlor games at the plaza to celebrate the childhood of Jesus Christ.

On Sunday night, hundreds of devotees joined the procession that went around the streets of Tondo, according to a report by Corinne Catibayan on GMA News' Unang Balita on Monday.

The procession featured images of the Sto. Niño dressed in different costumes.

Devotees said their dressing up the Sto. Niño is a way for them to show their love and gratefulness for the Child Jesus' blessings.

Other areas in the country also celebrated festivals over the weekend in honor of the Sto. Niño on Sunday, among them Cebu City with its Sinulog Festival and Pagadian City with its Pasalamat Festival. —KG, GMA News
