Some universities in Metro Manila required its students and employees who recently travelled abroad to skip classes and take self-quarantine measures amid the threats of the fatal novel coronavirus.

According to Saleema Refran's report on GMA News TV's Balitanghali on Monday, Adamson University in Manila advised a 14-day self-quarantine period for its students, staff, and stakeholders who visited China or Hong Kong in January.

The Far Eastern University's Manila and Makati campuses also imposed a two-week quarantine for its students, faculty members, and employees who had been to high-risk countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, US, UAE, Singapore, and Thailand.

The school administration said that special classes will be allotted to those who will be affected by the precautionary measure.

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines, on the other hand, requested its students and employees who had travel history to any other country from January 14 onwards to stay at home.

Those with fever were also advised to skip classes and work until fully recovered.

Six other Chinese-Filipino schools in Manila also cancelled their classes and implemented self-quarantine measures to prevent a possible outbreak, considering that many travelled to other parts of the globe for the Chinese New Year celebration.

The Department of Education already formed a task force to address the issues that may arise from the novel coronavirus outbreak. —Dona Magsino/LDF, GMA News
