More than 200 fire trucks join Fire Prevention Month parade aiming to set world record

To kick off the Fire Prevention Month on Sunday, March 1, around 230 fire trucks joined a motorcade in Metro Manila from the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City to the Quezon Memorial Circle on Elliptical Road in Quezon City.

Before the motorcade started at 6 a.m., an informal program was held at the Mall of Asia grounds.

The participating fire trucks started to arrive at the Quezon Memorial Circle around 7 a.m., according to a report by Luisito Santos on Dobol sa News TV.

Firefighters from volunteer groups were present. Aside from fire trucks, ambulances that BFP uses for rescue operations were also brought to the event.

This year’s Fire Prevention Month's theme is “Matuto Ka, Sunog, Iwasan Na.”

Sunday's parade was coordinated with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to ensure smooth traffic from Mall of Asia going to EDSA then Elliptical Circle.

Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Fire Chief Superintendent Wilberto Rico Neil Kwan Tiu, regional director for the BFP-National Capital Region, told Dobol B sa News TV they are aiming to set a new world record for the longest parade of fire engines.

"Gusto ho namin na mai-set 'yung pinakamahabang parada ng fire engines sa buong mundo," Kwan Tiu said.

The current world record is for 220 fire trucks in a parade, he said.

"Lalagpasan po natin 'yan," Kwan Tiu added.

At the end of the activity, the BFP-NCR said 242 fire engines joined the parade on Sunday.

Kwan Tiu said they contacted the Guinness World Records but they were informed processing would take weeks.

The BFP-NCR official said they will hold another record-setting parade in July with representatives from the other regions.

Kwan Tiu said the BFP is continuing its campaign of fire prevention. "Tuloy-tuloy ang kampanya namin," he said. —with Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
