Free Pasig River Ferry rides extended until March 31
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced plans to expand the Pasig River Ferry Service (PRFS), along with the extension of free rides until the end of March.
According to the MMDA, free rides would be available until March 31, after being extended for another month from the original end of February 29.
"We are happy to hear that people are enjoying the ferry ride going to their destinations and commuting by ferry has become a way of life with Metro Manila residents. That is why we are extending the free ride until March 31," MMDA chairman Danilo Lim said in a statement.
Launched in 2014, the PRFS runs from Pinagbuhatan in Pasig City to Escolta in Manila with 11 stations in between: Pinagbuhatan, San Joaquin and Maybunga in Pasig City; Guadalupe, Valenzuela in Makati City; Hulo in Mandaluyong City; and Lambingan, Sta. Ana, PUP, Lawton, Escolta in Manila.
The service accommodated an estimated 700 to 1,000 passengers daily through eight boats which could serve a varying number of passengers.
With the anticipated increase in passengers, the MMDA said it planned to construct three more ferry stations -- Quinta Market in Manila, Circuit Makati, and Kalawaan in Pasig.
"I am optimistic that our future plans will further boost the ferry’s commuter patronage," said MMDA Deputy Chairman Frisco San Juan, Jr. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/DVM, GMA News
