COVID-19-positive ma and daughter on home quarantine due to overbooked hospitals
A mother and daughter from Quezon City who both tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are on home quarantine because hospitals in the city are already at capacity.
The daughter is Patient 135, a 13-year-old whose sister and mother are both COVID-19-positive.
They are among the 140 COVID-19 cases in the Philippines.
“Early this morning, nasa bahay pa rin sila dahil puno pa rin ‘yung ospital,” Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a 24 Oras report by Saleema Refran on Monday.
Belmonte said the Quezon City General Hospital, Novaliches District Hospital, and Rosario Maclang Bautista Hospital are already overbooked.
The Quezon City Government has already reached out to some hotels in search of establishments that can serve as makeshift quarantine facilities for persons under investigation for possible COVID-19-infection.
The local government also plans to use new schools and government buildings as quarantine facilities, while they have requested additional medical personnel from the Department of Health.
“Eventually, dapat ‘yung mga positive na serious na talaga ang kalagayan sila dapat ang maging priority sa ating mga ospital,” Belmonte said.
“‘Yung mga positive na malalakas naman ang katawan o mild lang ang symptoms, pwede na rin doon sa mga alternative facilities natin.”
Local authorities also plan to provide vitamins, medicines, alcohol, and soap to some 1,000 indigent families in the city. —Julia Mari Ornedo/LDF, GMA News
