Fishmonger peddles fresh seafood to Mandaluyong residents amid quarantine
A fishmonger continues to make a living while helping Mandaluyong residents with their food supply amid the enhanced community quarantine imposed on Luzon.
Manong Fish, as he is called by his longtime customers, peddles fresh seafood directly to people's doorsteps around P. Cruz, Mandaluyong.
Reisdent Pearl Perlada expressed her appreciation for Manong Fish, who she said has been their village fishmonger "for quite some time now."
"He comes every two days and peddles to us fresh seafoods. Sometimes talakikok, hipon, lapu-lapu, sometimes tilapia and galunggong," she told GMA News Online.
Manong Fish has had a boost in his sales amid the quarantine, telling Pearl that his supply sells out quickly.
"He has always been Manong Fish to us. He has been doing it ever since. Now lang mas marami daw tao sa houses nila. Dati mga maids lang bumibili sa kanya," Pearl said.
And how is Manong Fish faring amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) threat in the country?
"Sabi niya OK daw siya although natatakot. I think kasi now nauubos niya agad benta niya even before lunch," she said.
"Malaking tulong daw," she added.
She also assured that a foot bath is conducted at the village gates, and Manong Fish sanitizes making his rounds.
Luzon has been under enhanced community quarantine as of March 17to contain the spread of COVID-19.
As of Tuesday, the Philippines has reported 552 COVID-19 cases. The number of fatalities also rose to 35 while the total number of recoveries climbed to 20.
Meanwhile, 704 people have tested negative for the disease.
