The inmates of the Metro Manila District Jail of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) found a way to help frontliners amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to Oscar Oida's report on 24 Oras, the inmates volunteered to make face shields for frontliners due to supply shortage in the country.

"Napapanood ho kasi namin sa TV 'yong mga nangyayari sa labas eh kaya imbis na magmukmok kami at maburyo, nagsama-sama kaming mga PDL (Persons Deprived of Liberty) para magtulong-tulong po gumawa ng mga face shields para sa mga frontliners natin," one of the inmates said.

A total of 215 face shields were distributed among the Bacoor Philippine National Police on Monday as they continue to serve the citizens amid the pandemic.

The Bacoor PNP was touched by the kind gesture and said the face shields would really help their daily operations.

“Napaka-risky po sa part namin sa mga frontliner diyan lalo na ‘yong pagbukas ng pintuan o bintana ng mga sasakyan so hindi natin malaman kung carrier ba sila. Minsan may umuubo pala diyan,” Lt. Col. Vicente Cabatingan said.

Aside from the Bacoor PNP, the inmates last March 27 also distributed 100 face shields to various hospitals and checkpoints in Metro Manila.

Currently, the inmates are still making 1,000 face shields for the country's frontliners. -- Ma. Angelica Garcia/BAP, GMA News
